Gift policy

The Whipple Library gratefully accepts gifts for the development of its collections. Especially valuable are books (including rare books) and journals that fill gaps within existing strengths and that support the Department's teaching and research as set out in the Library's collection development policy. Gifts are treated as new acquisitions and are therefore evaluated by the same standards applied to new purchases to safeguard quality and relevance to the Library's needs.

In preparation for donating a book gift the Library encourages donors to provide a printed list indicating author, title, publication date, and general condition of each book. If gifts are accepted it should be understood that, upon receipt, the University of Cambridge becomes the owner of the material. Benefactors of large donations are requested to bear in mind the costs to the Library in accepting gifts to its collections.
