If a request for a photocopy is refused, it may be possible to obtain a photograph instead – please ask staff for advice.
Printing
Printing from electronic resources and the Internet is available (priced 5p per page) from designated computers in the old library. These are connected to the printer in the librarian's office. Please pay for and collect copies at the library desk.
Microfilm reader/scanner
Enables reading, printing and downloading of images from microfilm to computer so that they can be saved to CD or memory stick, or emailed. Please ask staff for assistance if required.
Scanning
An A4 size scanner is available in the old library by the microfilm reader.
Please obey the copyright regulations which have been provided next to the equipment. Please switch on the equipment when you want to use it and ensure that you have switched it off after use. Basic instructions are provided next to the machine. Please ask staff for assistance if required.
Files should be saved to a memory stick or disk for printing elsewhere. Files can also be saved to the temporary directory on the PC but please be aware that these will be periodically deleted.
Computer facilities
The iMacs in the Library give access to the University online catalogues, electronic resources and the Internet, and can be used for email.
Wireless network and use of laptops
Wireless access via Lapwing is available throughout the Library (and also in the Coffee Room, the Graduate IT Suite and the Phoenix Room). If you have a wireless-capable laptop, you only need a Raven password to start using Lapwing. There are power sockets for laptops throughout the Library.
See the University Computing Service's Lapwing page for more information.
Lockers
Lockers are provided for the secure storage of personal property and valuables. Lockers must be cleared and the key returned each evening.
Interlibrary loans
The Whipple Library does not operate an interlibrary loan service. Readers requiring books or articles not held in Cambridge should order them at the University Library, which charges a fee of £3.00 per search.
