The Whipple Library was founded on the gift of Robert Stewart Whipple of his rare scientific books to the University in 1944, and is the largest specialist library in the history and philosophy of science and medicine in the UK. It functions as the Departmental Library and provides the basis for research and teaching at both undergraduate and graduate level.
